Connie Buckler is the new chair of the Greater Essex County District School Board as both the public and Catholic boards held their organizational meetings Tuesday night.
Her name had to be pulled out of a hat by Director of Education Erin Kelly after back-to-back tie votes.
"I've not seen it before, but then I'm only on in my second-term," says Buckler. "It does speak to the board and the work we have ahead of us."
Buckler doesn't see the back-to-back tie votes in deciding a new chair as a rift among trustees.
"I don't know that there are divisions so much as there's a willingness to work together and get all our talents meshing," says Buckler.
Ron LeClair was acclaimed to the vice-chair position.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board Catholic school board saw Barbara Holland returned as chair and Mary DiMenna returned as vice-chair uncontested.
