Investigation After Dog Found Tortured

Had it not been for the intervention of a Windsor man, a dog now named Justice would have died a horrible death.

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is investigating after a man walking his own two dogs found the small dog beside the Canadian Tire on Walker Rd. Thursday. The dog's muzzle, neck and paws were tightly wound with electrical tape. He couldn't move, was having difficulty breathing and his paws were extremely swollen. He is being treated for his injuries now.

The dog is a small breed dog with a cropped tail. He weighs approximately 13 lbs and has a pre-existing dental or mouth issue that would have caused foul breath. The Windsor-Essex Humane society says the dog is alert and eating well, but the damage to his mouth tissue is much worse than anticipated. The dog is also positive for heartworm.

Officials believe he was dumped sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Windsor police say they have arrested a man in connection with the incident. More information is expected to be released later Saturday afternoon.
