Catholic Board Expands French Immersion

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is launching a French Immersion program in Lakeshore.

Starting in the fall of 2016, the program will be offered for students in JK to Grade 1 at St. John the Baptist in Belle River. The school will be dual-track and continue English instruction as well.

"If there's enough interest then we will expand and provide it to Grade 2 students as well and then we'll just incrementally add more grades as students go through the system," says Communications Coordinator Stephen Fields.

Parents interested in sending their kids to the French Immersion program are encouraged to attend an information session at the school on January 27 at 7pm.

"All the correspondents from the school that goes home to the parents will be done in English so it's the kind of thing where those parents who want French Immersion but don't really speak the language all that well are still going to be able to help support their kids as they're going through the system," says Fields.
