Police Investigate Damaged Trees

Police in LaSalle are investigating after someone severely damaged two trees in Kenwood Park with a chainsaw.

The LaSalle Police Service says officers received a call on Wednesday about the two Poplar trees, which are 2-3 ft wide and almost 100 ft tall.  The trees have sustained 2-5 inch deep chainsaw cuts around their circumference.

Police say the damage caused concern that the trees could fall on a nearby house or a pedestrian. A tree removal service has since attended the park to cut down a number of big limbs as they prepare to fully remove the trees.

Police say a similar incident took place at Lafferty Park back in November 2015, and those trees were also taken down.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact LaSalle police at 519-969-5210 ext. 0 or Crime Stoppers at 519-254-TIPS.
