Strike Looming At Windsor Public Libraries

Windsor's libraries could be closing their doors on March 24 if front line workers can't agree on a new contract with management.

Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2067 represents the 62 employees.

Spokesperson Amanda Meloche says talks broke down earlier this week.

"On Monday, our union was prepared to bargain and hammer out a fair contract that would allow our members to continue to provide important library services," she explains. "Instead, management has set the stage for an unnecessary service shutdown."

The current contract for librarians, clerks, catalogers, and maintenance staff, at nine libraries in the city, ran out December 31, 2015.
