Triple Digit Increase In Housing Starts

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says housing starts in Windsor jumped dramatically in February.

Ground broke on a total of 50 units during what is typically a slow month in home construction. That tops 11 housing starts in February 2015 by 355%.

The year to date increase is also impressive, 107% as construction started on a total of 93 units so far this year compared to 45 by this time last year.

Housing starts are also up provincially by 86%, and nationally by 44%.

The number of homes that changed hands also increased last month, 15.04% over February 2015 as deals closed on 413 homes. So far this year, the Windsor-Essex County Association of Realtors says sales are up 14.95% over this time last year.

The average price of a home in Windsor-Essex last month was $208,984, an increase of 8.75% over February 2015.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
