Enrollment Higher Than Expected At Catholic Board

Enrollment projections are up at the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board bringing the projected budget deficit down by $2-million.

Early projections predicted enrollment at the board would be down 530 students but after early registration that number is down to 313.

"What that means is increased grant revenue from the ministry on the revenue side but on the expense side it will mean we have to retain more teachers and supports for those new students," says Executive Superintendent of Corporate Services Mario Iatonna.

Originally the board predicted a deficit around $8-million but have reduced that to around $6-million because of the additional students.

Iatonna says by the time the budget is presented to the board in June they hope to have a balanced budget.
