Margaret Trudeau Sharing Mental Health Story In Windsor

The prime minister's mother is expected to share her experiences with mental illness this November at an event in Windsor.

Margaret Trudeau will be the guest speaker at this year's Stigma Enigma event at Caesars Windsor on November 12.

The mother of Justin Trudeau and ex-wife of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau is considered an icon in Canada for her advocacy efforts on the behalf of the mentally ill. She's expected to speak about her public struggle with bi-polar disorder at a time when the stigma against mental illness was strong. Trudeau has written four books about her experiences.

She currently sits on the Executive Advisory Board of the University of British Columbia Mental Health Institute as a community advocate and is also the honourary president of WaterCan, a non-government agency that helps communities in impoverished countries build sustainable water supply and sanitary systems.

Stigma Enigma is a group of ten citizens and former basketball players in Windsor working to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
