New Busing Routes For Cardinal Carter

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is looking to extend busing routes to Kingsville, Essex and Stoney Point for elementary students wanting to attend the new Cardinal Carter middle school.

Trustees have given administration approval to setup needed transportation.

Superintendent of Business Mario Iatonna says the new middle school is attracting students from outside Leamington.

"We've had some expression of interest from Essex. We already have high school students that go to Cardinal Carter High School that are bused from Essex," says Iatonna.

Each bus costs the board $40,000.

Iatonna says getting 40 students enroled in the new middle school would be a good cost recovery point.

"The more students that want to go certainly the more efficient it is for us," says Iatonna.

Trustee for the south part of Essex County, Mary DiMenna, thinks added programming at Cardinal Cater is attracting interest from outside Leamington.

"I think the academies that we're providing a replica of Corpus Christi plus the International Baccalaureate program," says DiMenna.

Students from St. John de Brebeuf in Kingsville, Holy Name in Essex and Our Lady of the Annunciation in Stoney Point will be eligible for busing to the new Cardinal Carter middle school.
