Books Balanced At HDGH

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare is reporting a balanced budget for the 2015-2016 operating year.

Over the last two years the organization has been completing a benchmarking project in order to find efficiencies.

"In the budget for 16/17 we've identified about $1.7-million of savings by doing that benchmarking process," says Marie Campagna, chief financial officer for HDGH.

The hospital is projecting a $1.5-million deficit in the 2016-2017 operating year due to changing provincial funding formulas. In addition, Campagna says changes to a new rehabilitation unit will take a year to be reflected in the budget.

They've requested a waiver for this budget year but expect to be back to a balanced budget by 2017/2018. The overall budget for Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare is approximately $107-million.
