UPDATE: Eight Cats Die In Tecumseh Rd. Apartment Fire

Eight cats have perished following a building fire on Tecumseh Rd. E in Windsor.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service reported the blaze at 1692 Tecumseh Rd. E on Sunday around 9:40pm. Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control within a first floor laundromat, and the blaze was reported out just after 11pm.

Damage is estimated at $450,000 and the cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.

Fire officials say there were 16 cats in one apartment unit and firefighters were able to rescue eight. However, the other eight died as a result of the fire.

Six people have been displaced. The building is made up of five commercial units and five residential units. All of the apartments were evacuated and no injuries have been reported.

A fire investigator will be attending the scene to try to determine the cause.

Police were forced to close Tecumseh Rd. E in both directions between Lincoln Rd. and Windermere Rd. due to the fire.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
