Cause Determined In East Riverside Blaze

The cause of a fire at 9565 Manitou Cres. in Windsor is being blamed on an electrical problem with a pot light.

An investigator with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal attended the scene of the Tuesday evening fire in the East Riverside area and helped complete the investigation.

The damage estimate was updated to a total of $525,000.

Officials had first estimated damage costs to be about $400,000 to the house and another $100,000 in damage to belongings in the single family ranch home including two vehicles.

On Tuesday, investigators couldn't determine the cause of the fire because the damage was so extensive. However, officials reported the fire started in an en suite bathroom.

The fire displaced a husband and wife with the woman suffering first and second degree burns.
