Still No Cause For Costly Amherstburg Fire

The investigation into a fire at a home in Amherstburg on Tuesday is complete and the damage is greater than first thought — but a cause has still yet to be released.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has completed its investigation into the blaze in the 3300-block of Middle Side Rd. and estimates the fire caused about $890,000 in damage. Initial damage estimates were closer to $800,000.

Officials believe the fire started in the garage, but haven't released a cause as of yet.

A family of five was forced from their home by the fire and were alerted to the danger by a firefighter pounding on the home's door at 4:30am on Tuesday.

No injuries are reported.
