Talks Break Down

It doesn't look like striking library workers in the county are heading back to work anytime soon.

Contract negotiations between the union and management broke down today around noon.

Lori Wightman with the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2974 says the main issue today centred on sick time. She says the mediator has informed the union management doesn't have the authority to revise its position on sick time.

The break down in talks has Wightman having a hard time seeing an end to the strike.

"After today I really don't," says Wightman. "If they're unwilling to move and they're unwilling to even bring in the person that has the authority to move, I don't see how this gets settled."

Library workers in the county have been on strike since June 25.
