LaSalle Safest In Essex County

Municipalities in Essex County are among the safest in the country according to new Statistics Canada data.

The stats show that LaSalle has the third lowest crime severity index among communities with a population of over 10,000 people in all of Canada.

LaSalle Police Chief John Leontowicz attributes the low crime severity rate to the cooperation of residents.

"We have a very strong relationship with people, with our residents, and we have a large number of proactive programs," says Leontowicz.

The Town of Amherstburg follows close behind LaSalle in the number four spot. The Town of Kingsville came in at number ten. Essex, Lakeshore and Tecumseh are also among the top 20 safest communities based on the crime severity index.
