University Reaches Deal With Custodians, Food Services

Just ahead of the expiry date on its current contract, the University of Windsor has a tentative deal with the union that represents 250 workers.

CUPE Local 1001 represents workers in food services, custodians, and grounds and maintenance workers.

The current contract expires July 31, and the two sides reached the new six-year contract last Thursday.

A statement from the university says it won't release details until both the union members and the university ratifies the contract agreement.

Last September, the workers held an information picket saying they were fighting against the contracting out of their jobs. CUPE says contracting out has already lead to the loss of work in nine campus buildings.
