Horse Group Wants More Betting

The Lakeshore Horse Raceway Association is looking to grow its betting haul by either going online or getting permission to simulcast.

The group is applying to the Ontario Gaming and Lottery Corporation to simulcast its races across the province and is also negotiating with a private company to potentially bring its races online for betting.

Association member Tom Bain says the group is ready to expand its reach.

"I mean if we want to continue to grow that's something that we're going to need," says Bain. "We've actually, I feel, with live racing reached our full potential."

Bain thinks the group has a strong case to make for greater betting availability.

"We feel quite strongly we're ready to go on to the next step of being able to either put our races on the web and allow betting there or to have simulcasting and bring other races into the area," says Bain.

Bain hopes to have an answer from either OLG or the private company by the end of the month.

The Lakeshore Horse Raceway Association begins its first of 13 race dates on Sunday at the Leamington Raceway.
