Border Services Cancels Hearing For Former CCH Basketball Player

An admissibility hearing for a Windsor man who allegedly posed as a high school student has been cancelled in Toronto.

The Canada Border Services Agency made an application last week to the Immigration Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board to withdraw its request for the hearing.

A reason why the hearing was cancelled hasn't been confirmed.

Jonathan Nicola's former lawyer, Frank Miller says Nicola is represented now by a lawyer through Ontario Legal Aid.

Miller says the only reason he can think of for cancelling the hearing is if Nicola has made a refugee claim. However, he stresses he hasn't been in communication with Nicola recently.

The Immigration and Refugee Board says it can not confirm or deny a claim has been made, and Communications Manager at Ontario Legal Aid, Feroneh Neil says she can't comment on legal cases because of lawyer-client privilege.  BlackburnNews.com has also contacted border services, which has refused to comment.
