Swimming Unsafe At Six Beaches

The Windsor-Essex Health Unit is recommending residents stay out of the water at six local beaches.

High bacteria levels were detected at Sandpoint Beach, West Belle River Beach, Cedar Island Beach, Colchester Beach, holiday Beach, Mettawas Beach and Seacliff Beach.

Cedar Beach, Hillman Marsh Beach and Point Pelee West Beach are safe for swimming. However, the health unit warns water quality can change from day to day and they do not recommend swimming if there was recent heavy rainfall, if the water is cloudy or if you are unable to see your feet in the water.

The health unit conducts beach water quality monitoring at ten public beaches every Wednesday from June to September.
