New Lakeshore CIP In The Works

Lakeshore is looking at the possibility of bringing its community improvement plan to the rest of town.

The CIP is currently only available in Belle River but town Councillor Steven Wilder wants to see it expanded.

"CIP funding does come from tax revenues, does come from taxpayers on a town-wide basis, so I do believe it should be available on a town-wide basis," says Wilder.

He feels the program has brought real benefits to Belle River.

"We're seeing businesses — and you have to look no further than Notre Dame St. — that have upgraded their outside appearances, their landscaping, their signage, things of that nature," says Wilder.

Lakeshore's council meeting on Tuesday saw councillors vote for a report to be drawn up on the matter.

Wilder is confident a town-wide CIP will become a reality, but doesn't expect it to happen overnight.

"There's a lot of ground work, a lot of research and information that needs to be put together, so it's a large undertaking, but ultimately it's one I'd like to see us move towards," says Wilder.

There are no timelines yet as to when a town-wide CIP could be in place.
