It's Kingsville Folk Music Festival Time

The third annual Kingsville Folk Music Festival is underway this weekend at Lakeside Park in Kingsville.

This year, the event is more worldly with the addition of Portuguese Fado singer Tony Gouveia and Cuban-Canadian Latin Grammy Award winner Alex Cuba.

Cree singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie headlines the festival with a performance Saturday night.

Before she hits the stage, the winner of the first annual Canada South Songwriting Contest will be announced. Two of the five finalists are from Windsor-Essex: Sydney Matlock of Amherstburg and Karen Morad of Windsor. The other three are Erika Kylnys of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Greg Bottling of Petrolia and David Joyce of Newmarket.

The contest attracted 50 entries from across Canada and the U.S.

There's more on the event on the festival's homepage.
