Two Local Beaches Closed

Two local beaches are closed this week after water testing revealed high levels of bacteria.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit closed Mettawas Beach and West Belle River Beach after water testing detected an E. coli count of over 1,000.

A swimming warning is also being issued for Sandpoint Beach, Holiday Beach, and Colchester Beach.

The health unit conducts beach water quality monitoring at ten public beaches every Wednesday from June to September.

Health officials warn that water quality can change from day to day and they do not recommend swimming if there was recent heavy rainfall, if the water is cloudy or if you are unable to see your feet in the water.
