Windsor Auto Workers Vote In Favour Of Strike Mandate

Workers with Fiat Chrysler Automobile and Ford Motor Company in Windsor have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action if needed.

During votes held at the Caboto Club and Caesars Windsor, Unifor Local 444 members voted 99% in favour of strike action at Fiat Chrysler if required, while Local 200 members voted 98.3% in favour of a strike mandate at Ford.

Ford office workers with Local 240 also voted 100% in favour of strike action if necessary.

In votes held across Ontario, workers at each of the Detroit Three automakers authorized Unifor's bargaining committees to initiate strike action. Workers at General Motors voted 97.1% in favour, Ford Motor Company voted 98.9% in favour, and Fiat Chrysler Automobile voted 99% in favour.

Unifor represents around 23,000 workers at the three companies.

If a contract settlement is not reached, Unifor will be in a legal strike position at 11:59pm on September 19.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
