Mega-Hospital Prep Continues Amid Stage Two Wait

Windsor Regional Hospital is taking another step toward building its new acute care hospital on County Rd. 42.

It's requesting amendments to the City of Windsor's Official Plan and zoning by-law in the area near the 9th Concession.

Even though stage two of the project has yet to be approved by the province, CEO David Musyj says they can't stand still.

"It's so that you're not moving to stage two and someone says, 'Well, you've got to get the zoning now,'" he explains. "This is the next natural step, and hopefully, while it's happening, we also hear something positive about moving to stage two."

Musyj says there hasn't been any official word on when they expect to move to the design phase, but capital planners from the provincial government came to visit the proposed site last week and learned more about the hospital's plans.

The City of Windsor and County of Essex have already agreed to back the project, financially.
