The Greater Essex County District School Board hired 52 new elementary teachers for the 2016/2017 school year.
Enrolment for Grades K-8 is up 395 students from last year for a total of 23,958 elementary students at the board.
Due to the increase the board has been able to recall all laid off teachers and has hired 52 teachers from the long-term occasional list.
The majority of new students are new to school and registered in the JK/SK programs.
Enrolment figures for secondary school will not be finalized until next week at the earliest.
