Leamington Addiction Centre Holds Grand Opening

Leamington's new addiction centre is holding its grand opening Monday.

The South Shore Health Centre has been open for three months now, but Board Chair Roberta Jarecsni says it took some time to bring all the needed services together.

"It took us a long time to bring in one program at a time," she says. "First we had the harm reduction, then we had the pharmacy, and now we're developing the programs for the South Shore Health Centre."

Since opening, the centre has helped 100 people begin to overcome their addictions. Unfortunately, Jarescni says there's a lot of demand for their services in the community.

"It's rampant," she says. "Drugs are rampant in our area."

The centre is also looking for volunteers.

"We'd like people who can drive people here," says Jarecsni. "There are times when patients can not get here because they don't have a car, they don't have a drivers license, they don't have any money."

The grand opening at 15 John St. starts at 2pm and wraps up at 6pm.
