Kingsville Begins Budget Planning

The Town of Kingsville is taking a little bit of a new direction while preparing its 2017 budget.

Typically the draft budget doesn't come out until the new year and it's finalized some time in March. But this year administration is hoping to get a bit of a head start.

"It will help us I think establish priority setting moving forward over the winter. We can start looking at tendering programs over the winter season so they are out first thing January or February and we can start getting results back. I think the earlier the tender the better the prices," says Mayor Nelson Santos.

Director of Financial Services Sandra Zwiers says they will also be including some recommendations for reserves and life cycle planning in this year's budget.

"We'll look at our asset management needs and put together a plan for council that's more long term and spreads out that committment. Certainly we wont be funding things over night but putting things into reserve each year," says Zwiers.

The first draft budget is expected to be released in early December. They aim to have the budget approved as early as possible in the new year.
