Windsor has its first outdoor ping pong table.
Former Windsor residents Dianne and Jim Moore donated $5,000 to see a concrete table installed at Kiwanis Park.
Dianne got the idea when she moved to Toronto.
"I was reading about how expensive hockey and swimming were for children, and I thought, 'ping pong doesn't cost a lot,'" she says. "So I took my idea to Parks and Rec in Toronto and they said, 'Go for it!'"
Since then, Moore and her husband have seen more than 80 built in Toronto parks.
She says they've become very popular.
"In fact, you have to wait [in line] to play," says Moore.
The Moore's used to live right next to Windsor's Kiwanis Park, and wanted to install a table there in honour of her father, who taught her how to play ping pong.
City Councillor Fred Francis thinks it's a great way to encourage residents to get outside and be active, and he'd like to see more of the ping pong tables pop up in other city parks.
"If there's anyone out there that is looking to make a contribution or charitable contribution to the City [of Windsor]," says Francis . "I kind of hope that they can follow Dianne Moore's lead here, Jim Moore's lead here, and go, 'Well this is a very unique way to make a contribution.'"
