CUPE Feeding Hundreds This Holiday

CUPE Local 543 is making sure that 600 Windsor-Essex families have food for Thanksgiving this weekend.

The union's handing out 500 turkey dinners and 100 chicken dinners to those in need.

Local President Mark Vander Voort says it's great to be able to give back to the community, as he recalls the story of one woman.

"Because of [these turkeys], this was her first opportunity to actually host Thanksgiving at her house," he explains. "She'd never had the opportunity before because she didn't have the means to buy the dinner, so she was quite thankful."

Vander Voort says this is the union's third year handing out Thanksgiving meals to families at the Unemployed Help Centre.
