Catholic Board Signs MOU With Korean City

The Windsor-Essex Catholic School Board's signing a memorandum of understanding with officials from Guro, South Korea, in an effort to bring in more international students.

Supervisor of International Education Nadia Desjardins says it helps put Windsor on the map.

"But it's not just about that," she explains. "We want to learn more about what they do in their education system, and share information."

Desjardins says they already have nine Korean students in the board, and 130 international students overall, but they'd like to see those numbers double and triple over the next few years.

The school board works with the Canada Home Stay Network to ensure that the students coming over have a good home environment.

Desjardins adds that Guro is a manufacturing city, just outside of Seoul, that has dealt with many of the same economic struggles that Windsor has. It's now regarded as one of the most technologically advanced cities in South Korea.
