Catholic Board To Address Delays Amid Strike

If you're frustrated by long delays at the picket lines in front of Windsor-Essex Catholic schools right now, the school board is looking into it.

Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board Spokesman Stephen Fields says some of the delays are unacceptably long, and it's affecting education inside the building.

"We were told that the last teacher didn't arrive in at St.Anne's [Monday] afternoon until 1:30pm," he says.

Fields says striking support staff are allowing students cross the picket line, but teachers are getting held up.

"For us, this is really an issue of students being denied their right to be educated in our schools," he says.

On Monday, Fields told BlackburnNews.com that students who arrive before their teachers would be supervised in a common area. Classrooms are locked until the teacher gets in.

He says the school board would like to meet with Unifor Local 2458 soon to talk about ways to shorten delays.

The strike is into its third day.
