Employee Follows Suspect After Robbery

An employee at a local pharmacy helped police track down a suspect after being robbed a knife point.

Police have charged a 61-year-old Toronto male with robbery after he stole a quantity of narcotics from the pharmacy at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Wyandotte St. W and Campbell Ave.

Investigators say the man entered the store around 4:45pm on Monday, brandishing a knife and demanding narcotics. Employees complied then he held an employee at knife point to shield himself as he approached the exit. He fled with a quantity of narcotics

An employee followed the suspect at a "safe distance" and contacted police with updates. The suspect became aware he was being followed and attempted to spray the employee with repellent.

Police caught up with the man in the area of Bridge Ave. near College Ave. where he was arrested. He was charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and taking a person hostage/threatening harm.

No employees were injured during the robbery or subsequent pursuit.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
