Board Rejects Union's Latest Offer

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board and Unifor Local 2458 are not heading back to the bargaining table any time soon.

On Tuesday, the union presented the board with a new proposal they felt addressed the board's major concerns.

A statement from the board says the issue at the heart of the dispute is lifetime post-retirement benefits for the union's current members. They say the latest offer does nothing to address the issue.

The WECDSB says the offer "fails to demonstrate any meaningful change to the position the union verbally shared with our negotiating team when talks concluded on October 7."

The board is calling the offer nothing more than a "public relations exercise" because its delivery was announced to local media. They say they've shared the offer with the conciliator but do not see any reason to head back to the bargaining table at this time.
