The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is hosting a town hall meeting to discuss Ontario's strategy to deal with growing rates of dementia.
The meeting at 6pm Thursday at the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County is one of only five across the province.
The public will have the chance to speak their mind about the strategy itself, along with how to better support those living with dementia and their families, the accessibility of services, and identifying priorities in research.
You can register for the event online, but the public is also invited just to drop in.
Across Canada, there are currently 564,000 people living with dementia, but that number is expected almost to double within the next 15 years to 937,000. The Alzheimer's Society of Canada also says 25,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
The annual cost of caring for those with dementia is estimated at $10.4-billion annually, but only 5% of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research's budget is devoted to dementia research.
