Man Found Dead Almost 1km From Crash

A man has been found dead in a Leamington park, 14 hours after being involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Thursday at around 9:30pm, police responded to the crash on Bevel Line near Monarch Lane. Officers attempted to locate the driver, but were unsuccessful Thursday evening.

On Friday at around 11:30am, the body of 56-year-old George Weldon of Leamington was found lying near the baseball diamond at Mersea Park. The park is located at the intersection of Point Pelee Drand Mersea Rd. C, about 800 meters from the scene of the crash.  Police say Weldon is believed to have been the driver of the vehicle.

Police officials have not released a cause of death at this time.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators have attended the scene to conduct an investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
