New Daycare At CAW Childcare Centre

The large amount of new hires at Windsor Assembly Plant inspired a local daycare provider to expand.

The Schoolhouse Academy Inc. is now open and accepting new students at the former CAW Childcare Centre. on Ypres Ave.

"It's not open for just the union members, it's open to the public. So of course a lot of assembly workers around the area, Chrysler, of course Met Hospital and all local businesses. Especially around Central, there's a ton of businesses around this neighbourhood that are needed child care services," says owner Katelynn Garbin.

day-careThe fully licensed 1900 sq.ft. facility on Ypres Ave. is down Ken Gerard Blvd. It has programming for all ages from infants to before and after school care.

"We have a capacity of 164 children ranging from two infant rooms, four toddler rooms, three pre-school and a big school aged campus," says Garbin. "We are licensed from 6am-6pm but based on when parents come into register and based on the need of the community, if we do get a lot of shift workers, we are open to extending our hours."
