Striking Library Workers Vote Next Tuesday

The date and venue for a supervised vote to possibly end the strike by Essex County library workers has been chosen.

The workers will cast a ballot on the Essex County Library Board's last offer to their union, CUPE Local 2974, in a supervised vote Tuesday, December 13.

The vote, starting at 8am, will be in the Shaheen Room at the Essex Arena. The final tally will be counted at 9:30am.

The workers have been off the job since last June in a bitter dispute over sick time.

The county wants all of its bargaining units to move to a third party insurer, but the union has argued the board is creating a problem where one doesn't exist and sick time has never been an issue.

The two sides last met with a provincial mediator November 25.
