Woodslee Woman Given Medal For Good Citizenship

A Woodslee woman has received one of the province's highest honours, second only to the Order of Ontario.

Evelyn Baker has been a volunteer with the Essex County Steam & Gas Engine Museum for more than three decades, 12 of those years as president.

She received the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship at a ceremony at Queen's Park on December 1, one of 19 recipients this year.

The medal was created in 1973 to recognize exceptional long-term contributions to the community.

This year's list of recipients also includes a chef at an Ottawa homeless shelter, a Toronto woman who has volunteered for more than 80 years and a Sarnia man who has helped expand health-care services in his community.
