Essex Signals It Could Buy Harrow High

Councillors on Essex Town Council have mentioned it in the past, but now council is sending a letter to the Greater Essex District School Board.

Councillor Sherry Bondy says it is not a commitment to buy it, not yet. She says councillors have a couple of questions to clear up first.

"We still don't know the price," she says. "And then come back to council and make that decision then."

In the past, the idea of a community hub has come up, but Bondy says what comes of the building will be up to the community.

"There will be more public consultations. Over the last two years, we've had a series of meetings, and the community has had several ideas," she says.

The school closed at the end of last June, and Bondy says it has left a gaping hole in the community.

"Every time I walk by there I still get tears in my eyes," she says. "I even peak in the windows and see the empty chairs and tables, and you know, the chemistry lab. It's very sad. It's still leaving a lot of hurtful feelings in our community."

She says it is difficult to say how the closure has affected business in Harrow but notes Mac's Milk and Subway recently shut its doors.
