The Greater Essex County District School Board is looking for funding to build a new Belle River District High School.
The board is applying to the School Consolidation Capital projects fund through the Ministry of Education, to update the older facility that has many empty student spaces.
"We'd love to have a new building because it does have high renewal and high FCI, with empty spaces. So, whenever we can make 21st century learning environments in our schools, we would love to do that," says Superintendent of Accommodations Todd Awender.
Awender says they would build the school on the current property.
If approved, the school board expects the new school wouldn't be built until 2020.
