It is Leamington's turn to show solidarity following Sunday night's terrorist attack at a Quebec City mosque.
Church leaders in the municipality are planning a vigil for 7pm Wednesday night at St. John the Evangelist Church on Erie St. After the lighting of candles, prayers, songs and reading of scriptures from both the Bible and the Koran, a procession will head to Leamington Town Hall.
The event, organized by the Leamington Ministerial which represents a number of church leaders, is open to all.
"It's the right thing to do," says Father Andrew Williams at St. John the Evangelist. "It's something that's very hurtful to everyone."
Williams says Leamington's community of 100 or so Syrian refugees is about to grow to 150 in the coming weeks, but he says it is not just an attack on the Muslim community.
"They're attacking people just like me," he says. "One of the men who died had four children. I have four children. Two of the men who died are engineers. I'm an engineer. So, by attacking them, they're attacking everyone."
At Leamington North Mennonite Church, Reverend Alicia Good isn't surprised by the outpouring of Canadians at vigils in cities across the country. She is heartened by it.
"As Canadians, we are saying that we are a people of compassion and the way that we have a peaceful society is by being committed to showing compassion and support for each other when we go through difficult times," she says.
Hundreds of people attended Tuesday night's vigil in Windsor and Kingsville to communicate a message of peace and unity.
Despite the tragedy in Quebec, Imam of the Windsor Mosque, Mohamed Mahmoud Al-Jammari was able to smile saying, "Beautiful hearts are coming together to celebrate the Canadian values."
There is also a vigil in Chatham Wednesday night at the Civic Centre.
