UPDATE: Alleged Violent Car Thief Arrested

A man the Windsor Police Service was calling "armed and dangerous" is now in custody.

Officers were called to the 3100-block of Sandwich St. just before 7am Tuesday, where a man was seen using a knife to damage a parked vehicle.

The man had left the area by the time police arrived, but just 20 minutes later, a man matching the same description was seen smashing the window of an occupied car on Huron Church Rd. at Mill St.

At around 7:35am, police say officers got a report of a man, again matching the same description, climbing into the rear hatch of an occupied vehicle. The driver was able to turn off the car and leave with the keys before the man reached the front seat. The man took off on foot.

Finally, not even ten minutes after that incident, officers were called to the 1200-block of Askin Ave., where a man had forced someone out of their vehicle and drove off with their car.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers recovered the stolen vehicle and arrested a 24-year-old suspect just after a car smashed into the side of a Tim Horton's at Park St. and Goyeau St. around 1:20pm.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
