UPDATE: Tentative Deal In County Library Strike

There is a tentative deal to possibly end the long standing labour dispute between the Essex County Library Board and the union that represents its library workers.

Officials from CUPE Local 2974 and the board met with a mediator Wednesday, and the deal was reached early Thursday morning.

The ratification vote is at 11am Thursday at the CUPE office at 3200 Deziel Dr. in Windsor.

The 57 workers have been off the job since June in a dispute over sick time and a third-party insurance provider.

Board chair Richard Meloche will not say if the union agreed to the third-party insurer.

"It wouldn't be proper for me to say what's in the deal until the membership has actually seen it," he says.  "There was a lot of pushing on both sides, but we were able to meet in the middle."

The board will vote on the deal Friday.
