Search Continues For Bone Marrow Match

The search continues to find a match for five-month-old Madalayna Ducharme, who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Ducharme has a rare genetic disorder called malignant infantile osteopetrosis.  It prevents her bones from working properly, and they become too dense. The disorder attacks vision, hearing and is life threatening.

Another swab event is scheduled at Holy Names High School Friday at 1400 Northwood St., Windsor from 10am to 1:30pm.

The general public is invited to attend this event.

The age requirement to register as a Stem Cell donor is 17-35 years. The registrant must possess a Canadian government issued health card.

Many people in the community have already been swabbed but the representatives say finding a match can be like finding a needle in a haystack.
