Developing A Downtown CIP

The City of Windsor planning department is preparing a community improvement plan for downtown that includes grants for businesses and residents.

It hopes to revitalize the core and make it a place people want to live, work and visit.

"We really want people to see downtown as a neighbourhood, but we also want it to be a destination for people to visit whether it be for entertainment or recreation," says Laura Diotte with the city planning department.

She says they have been meeting with community groups to develop granting programs.

"Financial incentives to promote the kind of development, we want to see. Whether that be more residential unit creation or commericial or mixed use facade improvement program," says Diotte.

The draft plan will go to City Council this spring for approval.
