Pelissier St. Garage Not For Sale

The City of Windsor will not explore the option of a private sale of the Pelissier St. parking garage.

Councillor Chris Holt brought forward a council question to develop an RFP for the sale of the entire structure but it was defeated.

"Looking into the idea of unloading something that loses money and putting it in a private investor's hands, it seemed to me a no-brainer, at least let's look into it," says Holt.

Last week, private investors came forward in the media with a business case for the garage.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says he has always been clear with his objectives with the building and it should come as no surprise he voted against the motion.

"I think Goyeau and Pelissier garages are very strategic assets for the City of Windsor and just because someone comes forward and says they want to buy your parking garage it doesn't mean it's for sale," says Dilkens.

Late last year, council voted to remove parking from the ground floor of the parking garage and add 42 more parking spots.
