Firefighters Battle Blaze At Auto Recycler

Windsor firefighters have extinguished a fire at an auto recycler on Provincial Rd. near the Sixth Concession.

The fire started just before noon on Thursday. Windsor fire crews received calls of multiple fires along the CN tracks that run along Provincial Rd.  A fire at a trailer behind Lucier Glove and Safety Products was quickly extinguished along with a fire in the brush behind the Plaza Ontario building.  The fire at J&B Auto Parts was completely involved, causing a roof collapse.

No one was injured due to the fire.

Windsor Fire Deputy Chief Andrea DeJong says witnesses believe the fire was sparked by a passing train.

"The train scenario is plausible, it is plausible based on the grass, and the multiple fires, same area, none of them at this point appear to be suspicious," says Dejong.

DeJong says the Office of the Fire Marshal will likely be called to investigate based on the amount of damage, but it is too early to determine a damage estimate.

Provincial Rd. has since been reopened. The Sixth Concession between Provincial and Socrates Cres. remains closed.
