Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

It's time to change your clocks ahead one hour as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2am Sunday March 12.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services is recommending residents install new batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks this weekend.

“In order for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to do their job, they need to have working batteries,” explains Chief Bruce Montone. “Once a year, old batteries should be replaced with new batteries. When you change your clocks this weekend, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services wants everyone to take the time to install new batteries in all alarms.”

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced when they are 10 years old or sooner if the manufacturer recommends it.
