Leamington Bridge Replacement Approved

The Municipality of Leamington approved the reconstruction of Bridge 11 on Mersea Rd. 12 over Big Creek Drain.

The 65-year-old bridge was one of six bridges identified in the municipality to be replaced over the next three years.

Councillor Larry Verbeke says its an important route for the rural community and he is glad the work will be completed sooner rather than later.

"I'm also happy that it's going to be funded 100% from the gas tax, usually land owners have to pay for some of these bridges if they benefit from the work. This is a great step forward and I'm glad that the rural area is getting something out of it," says Verbeke.

The budget for the project is $500,000. Construction will begin in late July and into August and will require full road closure.
