Flood Watch Issued For Essex Region

A flood watch has been issued for Windsor and Essex County due to ongoing rainfall in the region.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued the flood watch Thursday evening due to current wet ground conditions, and further rainfall amounts which are expected to reach between 45 mm to 55 mm by Friday morning.

As well, with easterly wind speeds expected to reach 30-45 km/h, flooding, shoreline erosion and damaging waves may also occur as a result.

Areas that could be affected included the east side of Pelee Island, the southeast shoreline of Leamington and along the Lake St. Clair shoreline in Lakeshore, Tecumseh and Windsor.

The conservation authority is advising residents to avoid flowing and standing water as both can be extremely hazardous.

The watch will remain in effect until 9am on Friday.
